Daytime 9:00 – 14:30

Evening 16:30 – 21:30

You will expected to attend one Saturday each month from 10:00 – 16:00

You also expected to undertake a minimum of 15 hours of self directed study and practice each week.

You will need a reliable method of internet access as well as a working email address, Abacus will provide you with our extensive range of on-line resources to assist your studies.

A Student Kit will be provided free of charge, but you may want to add to it at your own cost as your skills develop. We have negotiated a student rate at Capital Hair and Beauty which you can take advantage of. 

You will need to wear clean black trousers (No Leggings), a plain black beauty tunic and black closed in shoes. Your hair should be clean, and worn up if touching the shoulders and a light day make-up should be worn. Your nails should be clean with no chipped nail polish.

Included in this qualification will be how to perform facials, waxing, manicure & pedicure, eyebrow & eyelash treatments, promotion of products & services, health & safety and developing your own effectiveness and professionalism. 

You will also learn how to, provide body/facial electrical & epilation treatments, traditional & hot stone massage and how to contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities alongside health and safety.

You will develop a portfolio of work and carry out observed assessments on models. In addition, you will complete research and assignments and mandatory exams. You will also be expected to complete a significant amount of practice at home however Abacus will direct you and provide any necessary support required.

Progression routes might include training in other more advanced beauty techniques like laser and IPL treatments. Abacus will be delighted to advise and help you with any further training and/or business advice.

To succeed in this industry, you will need to be motivated and have a passion for the beauty industry. You will need to be hard working, enjoy meeting new people, professional, flexible and creative. The industry can give you the opportunities to develop and build your own business. By the end of the course you should be prepared to enter the sector as a beauty therapist. Career opportunities as a beauty therapist exist in a variety of contexts to include working in a commercial beauty spa, working in a beauty concession and working independently in a self-employed/mobile/home based setting.
