Daytime 9:15 – 14:45 running for 24 weeks.

You also expected to undertake a minimum of 15 hours of self directed study and practice each week.

You will need a reliable method of internet access as well as a working email address, Abacus will provide you with our extensive range of on-line resources to assist your studies. 

You will need to wear clean black trousers (No Leggings), a plain black t-shirt and black closed in shoes. Your hair should be clean, and worn up if touching the shoulders and a light day make-up should be worn. 

Please note that this qualification is physically demanding.

Included in this qualification will be a comprehensive anatomy and physiology unit with a exploration of the origins of massage. We will also look at the principles of complementary and alternative medicine before learning how to perform full body and head massage including the use of hot stones, the use of pre-blended aromatherapy oils, how to maintain your personal health and wellbeing, client care and communication alongside how to maintain and monitor health and safety. 

You will develop a portfolio of work and carry out observed assessments on models. In addition, you will complete research and assignments and mandatory exams. You will also be expected to complete a significant amount of practice at home however Abacus will direct you and provide any necessary support required.

Progression routes might include training in other more advanced massage techniques. Abacus will be delighted to advise and help you with any further training and/or business advice.

To succeed in this industry, you will need to be motivated and have a passion for the beauty industry. You will need to be hard working, enjoy meeting new people, professional, flexible and creative. The industry can give you the opportunities to develop and build your own business. By the end of the course you should be prepared to enter the sector as a massage specialist. Career opportunities as a massage therapist exist in a variety of contexts to include working in a chiropractors, commercial beauty spa, working in a beauty concession and working independently in a self-employed/mobile/home based setting.
